A while ago I talked about the idea of starting Bachelor recaps and, since one of my resolutions was less talking, more doing, here I am, actually doing this! I'm not exactly sure right now how these will go or even when they'll be posted each week (thank you time zone for airing a show that's way past this old lady's bedtime!!) but, regardless, I will be posting them some time throughout the week and I'm sure as I go along I'll figure out what works best.
Okay then, let's get right to it, shall we?
First things first, let's talk about Nick as the new Bachelor. Since he's probably, in keeping with true Bachelor dialogue, the most controversial Bachelor to date, there's obviously a lot of mixed feelings towards him. Personally, I really like Nick. I liked him on Andi's season, loved him on Kaitlyn's season, and still continued to like him on Bachelor in Paradise. I remember the morning my sister told me that Nick was going to be the next Bachelor last summer while she was visiting. It was the very first words that came out of her mouth as I stumbled into the kitchen half asleep. While I'm sure we were both in the minority, we were both extremely excited!
We already know a lot about him (and his sex life!), he's good looking, a lot of previous cast members seem to really like him (which is usually a good indicator since they see more of him than the edited version like we do), and he seems pretty genuine in that he truly wants to find someone. Plus, you can't help but root for someone who was rejected at the final two, not once, but twice.
But regardless of where you stand on the Nick spectrum, I think we can all agree that this season will be exciting to watch!
The show started off with Sean, Ben and Chris providing Nick with some Bachelor advice. Maybe more of the conversation didn't get shown, or maybe it was pushed by the producers, but I felt they spent way too long talking to Nick about how he hasn't been everyone's favourite person over the last few years. In fact, I kind of felt this was the tone of most of the entire episode. I'm assuming that this will be Nick's "thing", or his character if you will. I mean, if they don't have a lawyer, or a small town farmer, or a girl who was rejected by someone who told her that he loved her along with someone else and then left broken hearted (oh wait - i guess he kind of fits that bill too), then they'll have a runner up who's trying to win Bachelor nation over.
The first few episodes of the season are usually my least favourite since we don't know much about any of the girls and there's way too many of them to keep straight or figure out who we like/ don't like. This is off topic but did Nick's teeth look different to anyone else? Moving on....
There were a few girls that obviously stood out to me on night one. Shark/dolphin lady, anyone? While I do think she seemed a little nuts in that costume, she definitely achieved her goal - to be noticed by us and Nick. When I see people doing crazy tactics on the first night and automatically assume they'll be going home right away, I always flashback to Lindsay on Sean's season. She was the girl who showed up in the wedding dress, who drank way too much, who pronounced her and Sean as husband and wife while forcing him to kiss her throughout the night, but who also turned out to be one of my favourites and, not to mention, the runner up of that season. So I guess it's a little too early to count the shark/dolphin lady out just yet. I also didn't think there were many over the top or even memorable entries this season, which I was a-ok with. I mean, I think we could have all done without seeing that weiner one!
Then we have Liz, the maid of honour at Jade and Tanner's wedding who met and apparently slept with Nick that night. What do we think about her? It seems weird that she wouldn't give him her number the night he asked for it, but yet she shows up months later to be on the show. Maybe she really regretted it though and is afraid to miss out on the chance (does this remind you of Nick crashing Kaitlyn's season?). I guess we'll soon find out more with that one.
Rachel received the first impression rose. Although I liked her, she just didn't really stand out that much to me. But again, we all know we don't get to see everything thanks to sneaky editing! What did you guys think about Corrine and the first kiss of the season? While I'm certainly not a prude, I never like seeing a kiss on that first night, especially when it's forced by the contestant. After all, how much time did she actually have to talk to him at that point? With 30 girls, something tells me very, very little. The other three girls that caught my eye were: Danielle M (she seemed so nice!), Danielle L, and the Canadian, Vanessa. With my girl crushes on Jillian Harris and Kaitlyn Bristowe, I can't help but secretly hope she becomes part of that Canadian club too. Only time will tell!
I think that's about it for the first episode. Based on the preview for this season it looks like it's going to be a fun and, of course, "dramatic" one! We certainly have a lot more tears and roses ahead of us...
Did you watch Monday night? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Until next time Bachelor fans!
